The Digestive System
In order to use the food we eat, our digestive system needs to break down this food so that we can process it for energy and nutrients. The digestive system is a series of organs that work together in order to convert the food into energy and then to remove waste material out of the body. The digestive system is made up of the mouth, pharynx, oesophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine and anus. Check out the materials below to learn more about how our body digests food!

- The entire digestive system is 30 feet (9 metres) long
- The majority of our digestive system consists of tubes which push our food through the different organs
- Our liver, gallbladder and pancreas are all also included in the digestion process

- Digestion starts with chewing our food in our mouth and ends with excreting our waste
- The stomach is where food is broken down the most
